ABOUT MR. Lipp
MR. MICHAEL LIPP is proud to be a member of the full-time Science faculty at the Bolles Upper School! Born and raised in Connecticut, Mr. Lipp has lived in Jacksonville since 1984 and retired in 2017 from the Duval County Public School system after 33 years. During that time, Mr. Lipp taught virtually all Math (through AP Calculus AB) and Science (Biology through AP, Chemistry through Honors, and Physics through both AP 1 and C) courses available in the public schools. He taught at Englewood High School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies (where he was also the IB Coordinator), but spent the majority of his time - 27 years - as a charter faculty member of Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. In addition, Mr. Lipp has been an adjunct professor at many of our local colleges and universities, including Florida State College at Jacksonville, the University of North Florida, and Jacksonville University.
Mr. Lipp has received numerous honors for his teaching, including Duval County Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist, National Institute of Health Grant Recipient in Molecular Biology, First Coast Manufacturer's Association Outstanding Contribution to Science Education, Northeast Florida National Engineers Teacher of the Year, and National Board Certification in High School Physics. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a Master of Science Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Lipp is a recognized and award-winning theatre director, singer, and performer in the greater Jacksonville area. His productions (nearly 90 shows over the past thirty-plus years!) have been seen at all of our local community, professional, and educational theatres, including Theatre Jacksonville, Players by the Sea Theatre, The 5 & Dime, Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre, Limelight Theatre, and the FSCJ Artist Series/Wilson Center's Summer Musical Theatre Experience, among others. Mr. Lipp is a musical theatre enthusiast, and an avid reader and writer, whose one-act plays have won multiple local awards.
