On Wednesday, January 3, we were going to cover the properties of exponents and, as you know, school has been cancelled for Wednesday. There is no 4th period class on B-day Thursday, January 4, and I will be out of town at a conference on Friday, January 5 and Monday, January 8. You will be completing two worksheets on exponent properties on Friday and Monday while you have a substitute.
I quickly reviewed some of these properties the week before break (and it seemed, as a group, that you remembered many of them from previoius Math classes), but I want you to have a FULL lesson on all of these properties. Fortunately, I already have video lessons for all of this material online! There are 8 videos (taught by me) that you should watch BEFORE FRIDAY (a total of about one hour and 10 minutes):
Product of Powers http://youtu.be/IvLO_2kMTl0 (4 min.)
Quotient of Powers http://youtu.be/4bCfv7GGVac (8 min.)
Power of a Power http://youtu.be/Lj8AeH106Cg (5 min.)
Power of a Product or Quotient http://youtu.be/IhnPDAwiaqA (6 min.)
Zero Power http://youtu.be/WqtWtpfLerA (6 min.)
Negative Exponents http://youtu.be/iUEAvQhhyRI (13 min.)
Simplifying Combined Properties of Exponents Expressions
http://youtu.be/ihIn5UuOqoo (13 min.)
Simplifying Expressions with Negative Exponents
http://youtu.be/IukNw0hHf0s (16 min.)
Mr. Lipp has a collection of math video tutorials on a variety of topics in Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. His YouTube channel is www.youtube.com/MrLippSOLVE. The full organized list of topics with links can be found at www.lippsolve.com. There are currently about 50 videos of Mr. Lipp teaching exponents, radicals, imaginary numbers, and introductory trigonometry.
Due to today's evacuation during class time, there is no homework due next class on Monday, October 30, and Test 4 will be postponed until Monday, November 6. These changes have been made in the calendar and homework.
I've rescheduled your Algebra 2 Test on Sections 8.1 through 8.3 for one class period later - Tuesday, September 5 (we don't meet on Friday and Labor Day is Monday) - so that we can have an extra day of review for this important first test of the year.
Hello, Algebra 2 Students!
I have now have the information to access your ONLINE Algebra 2 book (along with some helpful resources). Visit www.bigideasmath.com. Click on the link "New to Big Ideas Math?" in the bottom of the sign-in box. Enter the access code: BMHS-AHTA-2HPR and click Next. Fill out the required information (for the Student ID, enter your last name followed by your first initial - for example, Michael Lipp would be lippm) and click Next. WRITE DOWN YOUR USERNAME on the next page because you'll need it to sign in to the site and click Next to finish registering!
On the first day of class, Mr. Lipp will be supplying all AP Physics 1 students with the Course ID to register for the online book and resources. The website is www.MasteringPhysics.com. Students will use this Course ID (see below), along with a valid e-mail address and the Access Code which came with your textbook. You will also be asked to create a Student ID - this ID should consist of your full last name plus your first name initial (for example, Michael Lipp would be lippm).
Period 3 AP Physics 1 - LIPPBOLLES3
Period 6 AP Physics 1 - LIPPBOLLES6
On the first day of class, Tuesday, August 22, Mr. Lipp will be supplying all Physics students in Periods 1 and 2 with their username and temporary password for the online book. Use that information to register your account on my.hrw.com ASAP!
Don't forget to sign up for REMIND to receive important reminders and announcements by text and/or e-mail! Follow the procedure below or download the instructions in the DOWNLOADS section for your subject (it is DIFFERENT for each class period)!
